Worth It! (Things to try, read, watch, hear, and discuss)

My December calendar is always pretty full, and this year is no exception, but boy does it look different. Here are just a few of the interesting things on my schedule:

My friends, family, coworkers and I are determined to be creative and adapt our holiday traditions as best we can during this crazy year (and boy am I grateful that Amazon offers gift wrapping).

This week, I’d really like to hear from all of you. How are you planning for the 2020 holiday season? What are you changing and how are you adapting? What ideas can you share about safely spreading holiday cheer? Let’s talk about it!

Merry Christmas to you, Amanda. Everything will be on Zoom, from gift opening to dinner with friends.

Timely post Amanda. Some Gloomy Gus types state that 2020 Christmas has been stolen from them by the government. If that is the case, we did it to ourselves by not taking the matter seriously enough from the beginning. My thought is, Christmas is alive and well, it is just different this year. Thank goodness for the tech that surrounds us, as it is finally proving useful. We are now in the midst of a 4 week lockdown here. We can still go out for necessities but, can not visit with anyone outside our bubble, either indoors or outdoors. We have been decorating our Christmas tree slowly, so as to enjoy the process and the transformation. We have also been video chatting and phoning more than in past years. I talked with 2 elderly aunties and an elderly uncle (100 in Feb 2021) yesterday and we made each other’s day. We will video chat with our kids for Christmas, but will also don our Christmas onesies and deliver some gifts and Christmas waves to others from their driveway. Meanwhile, we watch an endless litany of Hallmark Christmas movies to get in the spirit. Christmas is a feeling and we definitely have it. Stay well Amanda and have a Merry Christmas. Allan

“Different” and “gone” are definitely not the same thing. I’m finding that the challenges involved, and the need to be creative, are actually increasing my connections and activity this month. While last year a single dinner with a handful of people might be all I could fit into an evening, now I’m having virtual events with two or three different groups. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of this year’s activities end up becoming new traditions.

Honestly, I’ve been living since March like nothing’s been going on. Plan to keep doing it.

Those are great ideas! I am at home with my immediate family, so we will have a small meal and a small secret Santa. We watch Elf or A Christmas Story, usually.

I’m heading to my hometown, as is my youngest sibling, and we’re staying with our elderly parents. Nothing has changed except there was no cross-country get-togethers for Thanksgiving or Chanukah, and I’ll have to talk to a couple of people through screendoors (high-risk relatives live with them).

  6. While I sadly can’t go to my annual Christmas party, I do plan on sending more people a personalized Christmas messages. Along with the usual baking and shopping. My immediate family and I are planning on seeing Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters as soon as it comes out. Merry Christmas!

Personalized messages are great! I’m super excited about Wonder Woman, but I’ll be watching it at home on HBO.
