After everyone worked from home Monday and Tuesday during the snowstorm, the past Wednesday through Friday was absolutely insane. Schedules were shifted, meetings were hurried, and we all scrambled to make deadlines. Happily, by the end of the day yesterday I had taken care of all the essentials and was ready for my holiday vacation. As much as I love my job, I’m very excited to have some time to rest and focus on other things.
Speaking of other things, I’m a little behind this year due to all the recent overtime. Over the next four days, I need to:
- Finish my shopping
- Wrap everything
- Clean, decorate, and buy food for my Christmas Eve open house (one of my annual traditions)
- Bake for Christmas Day
I also have plans with several friends and family members (in addition to the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day activities), so things are going to be busy. This morning, however, I’ve set aside for relaxation (I actually blocked off the time on my calendar and labeled it “Do nothing”). This afternoon I’ll start working on the list.
What do you still need to do to get ready for the holidays?
I’ve done the exact same thing. Sunday evening is my scheduled ‘do nothing’ time. Cannot wait.

It’s so important to periodically stop and breathe, isn’t it?

Absolutely. I’m so burnt out that I’ve barely had time or energy to read ten pages a night.

We have a couple of Christmas morning and dinner prep things to do yet, but otherwise, we are all set. Being retired allows us to check things off the list more quickly than we used to. Enjoy your Christmas break Amanda. Allan

I’m in need of a few days of sleep…
I’m still jealous of all your snow.

It was beautiful…as long as you weren’t trying to drive.

Missouri has snow and my area of Michigan is bare. I will do some garden clean-up today, wrapping packages, and laundry/packing in preparation for Christmas in my hometown. Enjoy your day, Amanda.

Sounds like you’ve planned a productive day. How far will you be traveling?

Five hours. (In Michigan, we give driving hours, not miles.)

I usually think in terms of time rather than distance, too.

Finish wrapping gifts. Decorate Christmas tree which has been up for awhile.

You are busy! All I have left is baking. I’m helping my parents move and decorate their new home while they try to move in before Christmas. Stressful!!
