Worth It! (Things to try, read, watch, hear, and discuss)

books

The best thing about the holidays is spending time with family and friends. The second best thing is having more free time. I chose to spend a lot of mine reading. With a whole week off work, I binge read like nobody’s business, and put ten more books in the “finished” column. That brings me up to 267 for the year.

Back in September, I wrote two posts about increasing reading, including whys and hows. If you missed those, here they are:

Being able to spend several hours each day lost in a story has been one of the highlights of the past week.

      1. Currently I’m reading a book in Italian Il Diavolo e La Rosa, a wonderful romantic story and next on the list is Lying next to me by Gregg Olsen 😉

The Dellamore doesn’t seem to be available in English, but the Olsen book is, and sounds very interesting.

  2. I’ve also loved having some time to read over the holidays. Nearly finished an audio book in the past week and am a third of the way through something I started a day a go. Feels good to not be constantly busy.

That is a lot of books. Congrats. My reading has slowed down of late, but I have a lot of books waiting for me. Cheers Amanda. Allan

  4. You read ten books in one week? What was their average length? My favorite thing to do with extra leisure time is usually hiking, but lately I’ve been spending all my free time job hunting and working on writing assignments.

      3. Then I agree! It takes me about an hour to read a ten-page scientific paper, but they’re also super-dense and not exactly pleasurable to read.

That might take me half the day. I have to slow down quite a bit for more complicated material, and science isn’t a strong subject for me.

I’m intrigued by people who can simply sit down and read a book… because I just can’t.

I read and study my Bible. But for some reason that’s entirely different than just reading a book… there were 2 books I couldn’t put down in my life, “To Kill A Mockingbird” and a book about when Sherman burned his way to Atlanta and it was slaves accounts of what they witnessed.

    I applaud you!

To Kill a Mockingbird is an incredible book. Of the literally thousands of books I’ve read, it is one of the most powerful and unforgettable.

I think it was the spunkiness of the little girl and the mystery…. you could kind of feel the innocence of Boo Radley..

And the girl could’ve easily been an Amanda.. 😝
